In the early 1900s Mitsuyo Maeda, introduced Kodokan Judo to a Brazilian family, "The Gracies". Carlos and Helio Gracie altered and developed the Japanese art into what is known today as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). BJJ is a martial art and a self-defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger opponent by using proper technique, leverage, by taking the fight to the ground, and then applying locks and chokes to defeat his opponent. Jiu-Jitsu or Arte Suave in Portuguese is considered by many to be the pillar of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Practiced with a gi (kimono) this discipline is more than a combat sport, it is also a method for promoting physical fitness and building character and, ultimately, a philosophy, a lifestyle.
Our team is led by enthusiastic sportsmen and devoted bjj'ers. Our objective is to get everyone to a higher level, train hard, fight easy. We aspire not directly to a bigger and bigger team, but to a stronger team. That's why team spirit is one of our foundations, everyone needs everyone to get better, from white belt to black belt. Our style is based on strong basic principles and from then learning more expert techniques. From the experience acquired from national and international competitions, we can pay special attention to strengthening and conditioning.
Our team and facilities are directly under the supervision of Zé Marcello 5th degree Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt with more than 20 years of experience and several titles (World Champion, Pan-American Champion).
